Jaime's Tree House is Hospice of Laurens County's Children's Bereavement Grief Camp. The program begins by identifying children in need of grief support. Through the help of our local school systems and by staying in contact with the families of former Hospice patients we are able to identify children that have lost a significant person in their lives and that loss has proven difficult.
Children are referred who had lost parents, siblings, and grandparents to homicide, suicide, disease, etc... Some deaths were unexpected losses: losses torn from a childs hearts without warning. Others losses involved disease that ravaged a loved ones body while an innocent child looked on. Children whose sadness, depression, poor school performance, and non-compliant behavior camouflage the grief that stole their joy.
Once the children are identified they will be registered to attend the next Jamie’s Tree House Camp. At the camp the counselors will interact with the children through games, crafts, and other activities. The activities are designed in a way to allow the children to share their stories and experiences with grief. The camp gives them a safe place to voice their feelings and deal with their loss.
We are currently seeking funding to sustain this program as well as to build an actual Tree House, to host the camps. It will also serve as a safe place for our counselors to assist the children throughout their journey. If you are able to help, please contact our office.
