Hospice of Laurens County was established in 1987 by a group of volunteers that noticed a need in the community for such a service. Since 1987 we have served over 1600 families in Laurens County. We are a not-for-profit organization; accepting all patients regardless of their ability to pay for services. Hospice care is usually paid from Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance reimbursement. Funding for patients without Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance coverage comes from United Way allocations, fundraising, the Hospice of Laurens County Thrift Store and your generous donations.
In the face of terminal illness, when there is nothing more that can be done to cure the disease, there is still much that can and needs to be done for the patient and family. Hospice is a specialized health care program emphasizing the management of pain and other symptoms associated with terminal illness and providing care for the family as well as the patient. Hospice services are designed especially to help terminally ill patients, families and friends face the physical, emotional, social, financial, and spiritual aspects of their lives, and the patient's death, together in an atmosphere of support and acceptance.
The Hospice belief is that by helping the patient and family accept death as a natural part of life, a measure of peace may be restored to the process of dying. By alleviating the patient's pain and fear, Hospice care fosters the spiritual strength to live as fully as possible all the days of one's life.
