Volunteer Program
Hospice of Laurens County was founded by a group of volunteers that identified a need in this community. Our volunteer program continues to be a strong part of who we are. Our success is a reflection of our community's generosity.

We have several areas where we utilize our volunteer hours:

  • Patient Home Visitation - Volunteers to visit patients/caregivers at their residence. Normally visits 1-2 per week for approximately one hour per visit. The volunteers provide companionship, emotional support, help with errands and short-term caregiver relief.
  • Hospice Thrift Stores (Clinton, Laurens and Whitmire) - Volunteers help receive, sort and price merchandise. They also assist with day-to-day operations (customer service, merchandising, light housekeeping). Some volunteers also with deliveries and pick-ups.
  • Bed Moving Teams - Volunteers to pick-up and deliver hospital beds to patients.
  • Administrative Work - Volunteers assist in-house preparing mailouts, answering phones, etc.
  • Fundraising and Program Activities
  • Watchman Program - Be Hospice of Laurens County's "eyes and ears" in your church community to identify those in need of hospice.
  • Transitions Program - For anyone diagnosed with a terminal illness, regardless of choice of other medical treatments.
  • Cake Bakers - Volunteers bake cakes to celebrate patient birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

We have a wonderful group of volunteers and are always in need of more caring
people. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Cheryl Simmons.

Bereavement Program
A vital aspect of the mission of Hospice of Laurens County is to promote healthy grieving and
healing from the pain of loss. Therefore we strive to offer a program of bereavement services that
extends at least 13 months beyond the death of a loved one.

We have several bereavement resources that will help you through this difficult time:

  • Correspondence Ministry - Receive comforting and caring information from Hospice of Laurens County via mail.
  • Weekly Support Groups - Meet other grieving families and find the support that you need.
  • Community Education
  • One-on-One Counseling
  • Jaime's Tree House Bereavement Camp - Jaime's Tree House was created to help meet the bereavement needs of school-aged children. The day camp allows children to express their grief and assist them in the grieving process. To speak with the director or obtain registration information, call 864-833-6287.
  • Special Memorial Events - Our Candlelight memorial service is held on the 2nd Sunday afternoon in November and a Butterfly Release Ceremony that is held on the 3rd Sunday in May.

If you would like more information on any of these programs, please contact Chaplain
Dan Compton or Chaplain Cheryl Simmons at 864-833-6287.
